Altior trimmed for King George glory following Cheltenham Festival win

Bookmaker Betway has trimmed the odds on Altior winning the King George after he successfully retained the Champion Chase crown on Wednesday.

Altior had gone into the second day of the Cheltenham Festival as the clear favourite to win the race, but there were a few hearts in mouths late on as he made hard work of the final two fences and splashed in the water.

That did not prevent the Nicky Henderson-trained horse from extending his unbeaten run to 18 races though, and he is now widely expected to head to Kempton later this year for the prestigious King George.

Bookmaker Betway has responded to that news by trimming his odds from 5/1 to 4/1.

Betway spokesman Alan Alger  said: “Having successfully retained his Betway Champion Chase title, Altior has little more to prove in the two-mile division.

“Connections suggested that the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day is a realistic target and we’ve cut him for that contest.”

At time of writing, Clan Des Obeaux is next in the betting at 6/1.
