Cheltenham Gold Cup: £20million expected to be wagered on today's Festival showpiece

Today's Cheltenham Gold Cup is set to spark a £20million betting bonanza across the industry in the UK and Ireland.

Apart from the Grand National, the showpiece of the Cheltenham Festival is the biggest betting race of the entire year and bookmakers Ladbrokes are bracing themselves for a massive gamble on the final day of the four-day event.

The Pat Kelly-trained Presenting Percy is the 7/2 favourite, but this year’s renewal has been described as the most open in years.

Last year’s winner Native River is 4/1 second favourite at time of writing, with King George winner Clan Des Obeaux priced at 9/2.

“The Gold Cup is the pinnacle of the Festival, with a staggering amount of money set to be gambled across the nation,” Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady told RacingTips.com.

“This year punters have a real task on their hands picking the winner with the front three in the market all holding solid claims.”

Ladbrokes Gold Cup latest odds: 7/2 Presenting Percy, 4/1 Native River, 9/2 Clan Des Obeaux, 10/1 Bellshill, 11/1 Kemboy, 12/1 Thistlecrack, 14/1 Might Bite, 16/1 Al Boum Photo, 16/1 Shattered Love, 20/1 Elegant Escape, 22/1 Bristol De Mai, 25/1 bar
